During the month of August, restaurant Sofia at The Gunawarman has teamed up with Chef Petty Elliott for its “Merdeka High Tea” promotion in order to celebrate Indonesian Independence Day.

Chef Petty’s creations honor the classic British tradition of afternoon tea but also include a unique Indonesian touch. The “Merdeka High Tea” includes savory snacks such as mini burgers with ayam pop (spicy chicken) and nasi kuning with spicy and sweet tuna arancini, while those with a sweet tooth can indulge in bubur sum sum with palm sugar and cashews or the typical scones with cream and jam.

“Merdeka High Tea” not only allows you to enjoy a pleasant afternoon with mouthwatering delicacies, but also to do good at the same time, as part of the proceeds go to Taman Bacaan Pelangi, a non-profit organisation focusing on establishing children's libraries in remote areas of Eastern Indonesia.

“They are doing a wonderful job, and since I spent some time in Sumba recently, I have a special connection to the island and its people,” Chef Petty said. “Therefore, I am happy that we can work together and raise funds to establish a new library in Sumba.”

Guests at Sofia at The Gunawarman can also buy “Lembar-Lembar Pelangi” at the restaurant during August, a book written by Taman Bacaan Pelangi’s founder Nila Tanzil, as well as Petty Elliott’s cookbook.
