My name is Hugo Hutapea, I am the current Assistant Senior Patrol Leader in Boy Scout Troop 455, and you are probably wondering why I am sending this email in the first place.
First of all, I would like to apologize for this intrusion especially since it is already 10 o’clock at night, due to the fact that all finalized papers are expected to be finished as of tomorrow. Secondly, the reason why I send you this message was because the communications merit badge requires a scout to “Write to the editor of a magazine or your local newspaper to express your opinion or share information on any subject you choose.” I thought of other possible options like sending it to perhaps Kompas, Times, Reader’s Digest, or something along those lines, but I have chosen to NOW! Jakarta because it was actually one of the very first magazines that really caught my attention.
As an Indonesian, I would first like to express my gratitude to your magazine for featuring Indonesian issues and news, places to visit, and reaching an international audience as well – no wonder Jakarta seems so busy. One thing I like very much about your magazine is its general layout. It is very well designed; it just felt different reading NOW! Jakarta compared to other magazines. Another thing I like, aside from the magazine itself, are the awards that NOW! Jakarta gives to restaurants in Jakarta, and this is very helpful for many people including myself as it tells me which restaurant I should go to with my family.
I never found reading your magazine boring because every time I flip a page, it always leads me to something new. In my opinion, reading a magazine covering various things like food, sports, and even politics is really what makes it enjoyable to read in my opinion. The various interviews the magazine hosts with several important figures such as ambassadors and the questions put into the test were really good and it is indeed one of my more favorite part of reading magazines, interviews with famous people.
One recommendation I would have is perhaps to once mention the Boy Scouts in the magazine, perhaps dedicate a page to them or maybe put it on the website as I feel we would receive a lot offers if we advertise Boy Scouting in an interesting and enjoyable way.
