Women Build for Women
With the poverty rate of Indonesia hovering at 14 percent, Indonesia’swomen became one of the most vulnerable poor in the country due to theirlimited input and influence over national development programs, policiesand laws. Often with children to take care for, these situations make them indire need of decent housing and access to basic services such as sanitationand clean water. To tackle this often overlooked issue, three Jakarta-basedwomen have established a not-for-profit organization called Women Build forWomen (WBFW) which aims to make the lives of financially disadvantagedIndonesian women a little easier.

Home ownership is still a point of contention in Indonesia, and poverty is not the only cause. Hence these indefatigable communities are working not only toward decreasing Jakarta’s slum proliferation, but asserting the basic human right to shelter.

Viareggio Carnival Feast At Rosso, Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta
The seaside resort city of Viareggio is the home of the Italian Carnival,
renowned as the Carnevale di Viareggio.
The festival was previously celebrated inside theatres and bars,
where people enjoyed a masked ball. It later took on a more liberating character,
where the city’s residents were united on the streets wearing masks for a festive procession
followed by dances, parties and feasts around the town.
