Bank UOB Indonesia named Anagard’s Welcome Peace, Goodbye Hostility 2019 Painting of the Year in its ninth annual painting competition.
PT Bank UOB Indonesia (UOB Indonesia) on 17 October 2019 presented the 2019 UOB Painting of the Year (Indonesia) Award to West Sumatran artist Anagard for his work titled Welcome Perdamaian, Goodbye Kedengkian (Welcome Peace, Goodbye Hostility). The event marked the ninth edition of the annual “UOB Painting of the Year” competition.
Anagard’s artwork will compete with the winning entries from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand for the UOB Southeast Asian Painting of the Year Award which will be announced on 6 November 2019 in Singapore.
Among the thousands of Indonesian painters who took part in this year’s competition, 50 were selected by Head Jury and curator Agung Hujatnikajennong, artist Arahmaiani and critic Nirwan Dewanto, and the works of the finalists are currently on display at the Ruang Pamer Temporer, National Museum of Indonesia, Jakarta, until 31 October 2019.
Two sets of four winners were chosen in two award categories: “Established Artist” and “Emerging Artist”. In the former category, the UOB Painting of the Year Award went to Anagard for his work titled Welcome Perdamaian, Goodbye Kedengkian, while the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards were presented to Dwi Januartanto for Eat, Pray, Love, Galih Adika Paripurna for White Square: Two of A Kind and Ayu Arista Murti for Recycle is the New Enlightenment.
The UOB Most Promising Artist of the Year Award went to Muhammad Yakin for Human, Human, Human Copy of Mimetic Desire, and the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards to Nanang Sarifudin for The Scream of The Rangers, Nadya Jiwa Saraswati for Bukankah Redam Membuat Ceruk yang Gaduh and Yawara Oky Rahmawati for Jalan-jalan Bersama Bunda.
