Hunting for Vinyl Records in Jakarta

Long-play (LP), or vinyl records, have made a come back as music artists revive the love for old-time records. More recently Indonesian bands, White Shoes and the Couple Company, as well as international pop star, Justin Timberlake, have released albums on vinyl. Classic Vinyl records are still rare but can be found around Blok M, Kemang, and Kebayoran Baru where stores also sell classic record players.

Whilst the magic of shopping for vinyls is the tangible flipping and digging through crates to find those diamonds in the rough, the hidden gems amongst in the sea of musical assortment, many vinyl record stores in Jakarta have adapted to selling LPs online as well. 

Monka Magic
Monka Magic has placed vinyl collections in convenience stores. Located on Kemang Raya, Monka Magic is heaven for vinyl records from indie musicians as well as restored version of LPs from Radiohead and New Order. They also sell merchandise and other interesting things.

Kims Varia
Gunawan Suhadi established Kims Varia as a tribute to his love for Indonesian music. Kims Varia is a destination for collectors looking for vinyl collections from the 1970s and 80s.
