Experience Japanese cuisine and learn its culture the delicious way at Shio, InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah.

Tucked away within the sophisticated design element by the main lobby of InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah, Shio is a teppan style restaurant promising an authentic Japanese dining experience. In charge of this new restaurant is Japanese Chef Hideyoshi Imai, who was crowned Japan’s best chef in 2007 as he came in first place in a nationwide culinary competition, rising above around 218,000 other competitors.

Shio is a hidden gem located within the hotel’s Sugar & Spice restaurant with exclusive 22 seats; six surrounding the coveted teppanyaki and 16 luxuriously appointed tables. As you enter the front area of Shio, you are greeted with marble-dominated interiors with plush sofas and a marble table at the centre, which displays a wide range of sakes available to enjoy.

The signature omakase menu is highly recommended, with a choice of six-course SAKURA (IDR 580,000++) or seven-course KAEDE (IDR 780,000++). The latter include Australian Wagyu Ribeye M8, a heavenly juicy treat that any culinary enthusiast will appreciate. However, if you are really looking to treat yourself, go for the ultimate HIMARAYA SHIO omakase (IDR 1,880,000++), which includes the prized Kagoshima Beef Ribeye A5, a world-class wagyu that’s so tender it virtually melts in your mouth.

Other favourites in the menu include traditional Japanese signatures, such as the Sushi of The Day platter with seven sushi and appetiser variations and the Chawanmushi, layered in such a way that you get richer flavour as you dig deeper, all the way down to the savoury crab meat at the bottom. The Triple Truffle Fried Rice, cooked with a delicate combination of truffle paste, truffle oil and sliced truffle, is also one of the superstars.

“If you are looking to learn about Japanese culture and experience its wonderful traditional food, come on over to Shio and I will be happy to indulge you through my cooking,” invites Chef Imai warmly as we close our interview.

Shio is open for lunch from 12 to 2.30pm and dinner from 6.30 to 10pm.
