Plaza Indonesia Fashion Week has started in full swing as designers showcase the pupil dilating Spring-Summer 2018 collection with vibrant colours and whimsical patterns representing the romantic and fun season this year.
Three Indonesian designers BIN House, Sebastian RED by Sebastian Gunawan, and Iwan Tirta opened the first day of Fashion Week with the theme, nature. The three designers successfully delivered the spirit of the season by creating more tinted tailoring as well as putting in a bit of romanticism in the look.
BIN house by Obin opened the show with “Now” collection by incorporating inherited traditional fabric such as batik and kebaya with a fun personality. As the background music played, Kimmy Jayanti walked on the runway with smile and cheerful movement, making the catwalk more lively.
Obin features the colours of Indonesia which were represented in every look worn by the models. The nature of Indonesian colour was implemented with the choice of batik colours and patterns. Kebaya was presented with the buttons open, making it an outer with the addition of Javanese heels and casual sneakers.
The designer constructed the collection for young generation, proving that the kebaya and batik work with casual presentation and the spirit of youth. Obin described the collection as “Now is important for Tomorrow”.
For PIFW 2018, Sebastian RED by Sebastian Gunawan presented the collection “Reminiscence” by infusing vintage and romantic elements into the series reflected in the colour, story, silhouettes, fabrication, and detail.
“Reminiscence” is defined as dream or experience of recalling stories from the past with the selection of vintage colours such as soft pink and peach, sky blue, to the tone of sepia. The colour of femininity added with the shades of brown, grey and black as neutral elements, combined with more colourful hues.
The fusion between the past and present was portrayed by the choice of textile, which using classic fabrics, such as lace, damask, gabardine, jacquard, and also more contemporary materials, sequined fabric, embossed textile, and fancy texture. The concept can also be seen by the application of classic A-line silhouette, slim cut, drapery detail, and a ribbon-ed collar that accentuates the sophistication of vintage femininity, mixed with more elaborate shapes of sleeves, skirt, and neckline that represent current style.
Iwan Tirta Private Collection
As a forefront of batik house, Iwan Tirta launched the Spring-Summer 2018 collection “Nuswantara” , manifested from the word Nusantara. Iwan Tirta Private Collection recreated the batik pattern mainly form central Java and also various patterns across the various region of the country.
The creative team of Boketan and Hokokai which is very feminine as well as heavily influenced from European and Japanese cultures, using gradation-like detail technique that usually appears on the Megamendung batik pattern.
A total of 24 pieces of ready-to-wear women's clothing is dominated by marine blue, purple, maroon, and white, presented in organza material, viscose cotton, satin silk with woven fabric. The elegant look of the modern empress is supported by the beautifully crafted accessories from by Rinaldy Yunardi and shoes by Marista Santividya.
