Paviliun Raden Saleh has officially opened at Taman Ismail Marzuki, and it is doing so with a statement of intent. Rather than introducing itself through a standard hospitality launch, ARTOTEL Curated has chosen to mark the occasion with an archival exhibition, Raden Saleh & Cikini: A Genealogy of Space, Art, and Memory.
This opening exhibition reflects the wide role Paviliun Raden Saleh is intended to play within Taman Ismail Marzuki. Located inside one of Jakarta’s key arts and cultural complexes, the property is part of the area’s ongoing creative and public life. Launching with an archival exhibition centred on Cikini’s history and cultural memory, Paviliun Raden Saleh establishes that connection from outset.

By focusing on Raden Saleh, one of Indonesia’s most important painters, the project reconnects visitors with the area’s earlier history, including the fact that Taman Ismail Marzuki once formed part of the wider grounds of his residence. That historical thread gives the exhibition substance. It also sharpens the meaning of the hotel’s name, which could otherwise risk becoming a decorative reference rather than a serious cultural one.
Paviliun Raden Saleh ties its hospitality concept directly to the history of Cikini through archival material and historical narrative. It also addresses a longstanding need at Taman Ismail Marzuki for accommodation that can support artists, curators, cultural workers and out-of-town visitors involved in programmes across the complex.
The exhibition is presented at Selasar Nashar, the hotel’s art space on the eighth floor, and is open to the public, art enthusiasts and hotel guests from 21 April 2026. Using an archive-based curatorial approach, it brings together documents, visual records and historical material that trace the spatial and cultural history of Cikini. During the opening period, room rates start from IDR 630,000 per night. The offer gives visitors access to the hotel, the exhibition and the wider Taman Ismail Marzuki area at an introductory rate.

ARTOTEL Group has been clear about the role it wants Paviliun Raden Saleh to play. Eduard Rudolf Pangkerego, Chief Operating Officer of Artotel Group, described the property as a platform intended to revive dialogue between art and society, with the exhibition serving as the first step in a broader cultural programme. The goal is to make the hotel as a collaborative site for artists, curators, communities and guests, while aligning the stay experience with artistic and cultural value rather than treating art as an afterthought in the décor.
The involvement of the Jakarta Arts Council strengthens that ambition. Bambang Prihadi, Chairman of DKJ, noted that the name Paviliun Raden Saleh was proposed as a reminder of the painter’s contribution to art and science, and he also pointed to a longstanding practical gap within Taman Ismail Marzuki itself. For more than three decades, the area has lacked an arts lodge capable of supporting practitioners visiting from outside Jakarta.
