Southeast Asia’s biggest privately-owned hotel management group, Archipelago International, reaches a new milestone since it was first established in 1997 as they celebrate its 25th anniversary!

After living in Hawaii for nearly 20 years, Founder Charles Brookfield dreamed of creating his own hospitality management company, in which his goal at the time was to open up a beachfront property in Bali and a city-central business hotel in Jakarta.

With its humble beginnings starting with a few hotels equipped with several hundred rooms has now grown to become Southeast Asia’s largest privately owned hospitality company, managing over 150 hotels with another 200 hotels in development spanning across Southeast Asia, the Caribbean and the Middle East, with more than 40,000 room keys in 60 destinations and over 15,000 employees.

Accommodating millions of guests annually across its properties, Archipelago International is globally recognised as a best-in-class consumer brand with a library of brands including ASTON, Collection by ASTON, Alana, Huxley, Kamuela, Harper, Quest, Neo, favehotel, Nordic and Powered by ARCHIPELAGO.

Celebrating 25 years of trustworthy hospitality marks a key milestone in the history of our company. I have nothing but gratitude for every employee, guest, hotel owner, and franchisee who supported and believed in us. Now the focus is on the future. The lodging and travel industry offers tremendous opportunity over the long-term and we are ready for the next 25 years and beyond,” said Charles Brookfield as Chairman of Archipelago International.

Over the last 25 years, the company has developed organically with high success in its home markets, whilst simultaneously perfecting its brand portfolio, technology, systems and standards. This has resulted in the company gaining the capabilities to compete and outperform other leading international hotel chains, which has allowed them to triumphantly expand to new global markets while still staying true to their Asian roots and globally-renowned Asian hospitality.

With John Flood leading Archipelago International as President and CEO, he thrusts the company forward to more extensive development across the globe, creating successful hotels through synergetic partnerships with owners.

We’ve worked hard over the years to improve and tailor our offering to forward-thinking owners and developers – for example, we were the first Indonesian hotel operator to achieve ISO 9001 certification. We revolutionized Indonesian e-commerce and consistently deliver the highest returns on investment and gross operating profits in the industry. We are a cohesive team that manages the largest marketing spend in the category and actively supports industry-leading IT systems,” said John Flood, President and CEO of Archipelago International.

Throughout its 25-year existence, Archipelago International has managed to achieve numerous accolades and recognition over the years, including being recognised as one of the 100 largest hotel chains in the world by Hotels magazine. ASTON has been named Indonesia’s most known and respected hotel Brand and number three travel Brand overall by YouGov 2022 Top Travel Brands report. Additionally, it has received accolades in different categories from Tiket.com, MG Bedbank, Triptease, Pegipegi and Booking.com
