Indonesian cuisine has an endless amount to explore. One recipe can lead to a particular region, a spice, a cooking technique or a family tradition, and there is always another story waiting behind the next dish. Sanjiva, the new restaurant at The Orient Jakarta, A Royal Hideaway Hotel, takes that variety as its starting point.
Named after the Sanskrit word Sañjīva, meaning “to give life again”, Sanjiva brings recipes from different parts of Indonesia to the table with a modern touch. The ingredients and flavours stay recognisable, while the cooking and presentation get a little more room to play.
You’ll find recipes from across the archipelago on the menu, alongside plenty of Indonesian ingredients and flavours. The kitchen works with different techniques and presentation styles, so each dish comes with its own little surprise. Local produce and the work of Indonesian artisans also have a place in the experience from the ingredients selected for each dish to the way they are prepared and served. The Indonesian influence continues at the bar, where local spirits meet spices, tropical fruits and botanicals. House-made infusions, cordials and vermouth add their own touches, while ingredients from different parts of the country keep the list interesting.

For Sebastian Godino, General Manager of The Orient Jakarta, the restaurant is also a way to introduce Indonesian food to diners from both Indonesia and abroad. “Indonesia has an extraordinary culinary heritage, and through Sanjiva we want to bring those traditions back into focus in a contemporary dining experience without losing their identity.”
Indonesian-inspired touches add character to the contemporary dining room with warm details keeping the space relaxed. Located on the ground floor of The Orient Jakarta on Jl. Jenderal Sudirman, Sanjiva suits both a full dinner and a casual drink. For anyone who enjoys Indonesian food, Sanjiva makes a good addition to the dinner list. With recipes from across the archipelago on the menu, there is a good reason to stay curious from the first course to the last sip.
