Grand Hyatt Jakarta is betting that the next generation of luxury travellers wants space, flexibility and something for the children to do. Following a full renovation of its guestrooms, suites and public areas, the long-established hotel on Jalan M.H. Thamrin is updating its proposition for families, business travellers and city-break guests while keeping the scale that has long distinguished the property.
The refurbishment covers all 415 guestrooms and suites as well as the lobby and other public spaces. The updated rooms feature contemporary interiors, improved functionality and modern amenities, with layouts designed to support business trips, leisure stays and longer visits. The changes also retain the generous room sizes that have long been part of the hotel’s appeal, and now paired with a more current look and use of space.
That generous usage of space can especially be experienced from the rooms, which range from 50 to 315 square metres, leaving plenty of room for laptops, luggage, children and the occasional room-service dinner without everyone competing for the same corner. Rooms come with dedicated seating areas, skyline views and access to the Grand Club for eligible guests. Higher up the accommodation range, the Diplomatic and Presidential Suites introduce separate living and dining spaces, giving longer stays and private entertaining a little more breathing room.
The new rooms follow a series of previous family-focused collaborations introduced by the hotel. Earlier themed stays have included partnerships inspired by Wicked: For Good and Minions, extending the hotel’s family offering through limited-time room concepts and entertainment-led experiences.
Families get a more playful update through five themed children’s rooms – Jungle, Voyage, Space, Castle and Submarine. Each connects directly to a Grand King room, so that children can have their own space while keeping parents close by. Inside, costumes, accessories and mission cards extend the experience past the room, sending young guests on activities around the hotel with small surprises waiting at the end.
The concept continues outside the room through a collaboration with Miniapolis at neighbouring Plaza Indonesia. Guests staying in the themed rooms can purchase Golden Tickets and take a small train from the hotel’s Level 3 lobby directly to the playground, with further children’s activities available around the Level 5 pool. The same floor where a 43-metre salt-chlorinated lagoon-shaped pool set among its tropical gardens. Club Olympus Fitness Centre, a jogging track, tennis courts, basketball facilities, sauna and steam rooms complete the facilities, giving families and short-stay guests plenty to use without leaving the hotel.
Adults still have plenty of territory of their own. Grand Hyatt Jakarta’s dining line-up includes Grand Café, Club Italiano, Sumire Japanese Restaurant, Pierre Hermé Paris, Fountain Lounge and the Poolside Restaurant. The mix covers all-day dining, Italian and Japanese cuisine, French pastries, afternoon tea and casual poolside meals for staying guests and local diners.
Business and social events remain part of the equation. The hotel has over 2,000 square metres of meeting and event space, including the 702-square-metre pillarless Grand Ballroom, now equipped with a large LED screen and hybrid meeting technology. The Residence OnFive provides a smaller residential-style alternative with meeting rooms, communal areas and outdoor terraces overlooking the city.
