Artotel Group is taking its hospitality expertise beyond hotels. Through a new partnership with Universitas Indonesia (UI), the Indonesian hospitality company will help shape not only how the university’s venues are experienced, but also how industry and academia can work more closely together.
The collaboration, signed on 29 June 2026, combines two initiatives under one umbrella. On the academic side, Artotel Group and UI will work together on programmes spanning education, research, and community engagement, opening up new opportunities for students, knowledge exchange, and hospitality-focused research. At the same time, the group has been entrusted with managing several of the university’s event venues during weekends, bringing its operational know-how to one of Indonesia’s largest campuses.
For Artotel Group, the partnership opens the door to a different kind of hospitality, the group will manage a selection of campus venues during weekends, applying the same operational standards and service philosophy that define its hotels and lifestyle destinations. The venues include Balairung Universitas Indonesia, Balai Purnomo Prawiro, Balai Sidang Universitas Indonesia, and the Floating Room at the Universitas Indonesia Library. Hosting capacities range from around 100 guests to approximately 3,000, allowing the spaces to accommodate everything from seminars and performances to conventions, exhibitions, institutional events, and MICE programmes.
Beyond day-to-day operations, the partnership also signals a broader shift towards closer collaboration between universities and industry. Students will gain closer access to industry perspectives, hospitality research will benefit from practical collaboration, and both organisations plan to develop initiatives that connect learning with real-world application and community impact.
“This partnership is about much more than venue management,” said Eduard Rudolf Pangkerego, Chief Operating Officer of Artotel Group. “It reflects how the hospitality industry can contribute to education by creating spaces that encourage learning, innovation, and meaningful experiences for future generations.”
For UI Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., the collaboration is equally about unlocking the potential of the university’s assets. With professional hospitality management complementing its academic mission, the university aims to strengthen its role as a place where ideas, people, and communities come together.
