The films include everything from documentaries, shorts, fiction feature films across many genres, with the festival hosting World Premieres, Asian Premieres and also a section called ‘Spotlight on Indonesia’. Numerous Indonesian and international filmmakers, as well as artists from China, America, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Poland and others will be participating in Balinale.

Balinale is more than just a collection of film screenings, it is a cultural event. The festival reflects the extraordinary ability of film to communicate the largest of human stories as well as the briefest moments of world changing emotion. One example this year is The Berlin International Film Festival’s ‘Berlinale Generation’, which will showcase a special selection of coming-of-age stories that focus through the eyes of their young protagonists and which hold up a mirror to the adult world. Amongst the stellar line-up of films, the BalinaleX Industry Forum concentrates on an artistic as well as on an industry level to improve the commercial prospects for Indonesia and its related creative industries. BalinaleX brings together key policy makers, creatives, studios and supporting industries to help chart the course for Indonesia’s growing motion picture and television business.

Held at the their partner venue Cinemaxx Theater, at their newest location at Sidewalk Jimbaran, Jalan Uluwatu, prepare yourself for a week-long movie marathon! As part of the festival’s commitment to the community, Balinale also hold a ‘Free Family Films’ program on Sunday 29 September at Cinemaxx Lippo Plaza Sunset.
