There is something about brunch, that meal at the time of day at the cusp of breakfast and lunch, that is so comforting, so satisfying. Taken in a restaurant that provides an atmosphere conclusive to such a meal is an added plus. And so it goes at Vong Kitchen.

From French toast to gutsier steak and eggs, diners are spoiled for choice at Jean Georges Vongerichten’s Jakarta outpost. Enter the softly lit space and take a seat at one of the very plushly appointed tables. Suited for both intimate gatherings and larger crowds, one feels immediately at home, no matter the setting.

No matter what you were up to the previous night, a drink is a wonderful way to begin one’s meal. Besides, it’s the weekend and worth the indulgence. The Aperol Spritz is particularly delightful and one way to ease into the meal. Start with something savoury, perhaps. While ordering up eggs (cooked to order) is easy, why not indulgence in the dish de rigeur – Avocado on toast. Served on granary bread, thickly sliced and toasted, it is the perfect repository for thick slices of avocado deftly arranged on top. Garnished with a soft boiled egg and a tomato, it’s best eaten with utensils! Fork the egg for that satisfying ooze of yolk as it permeates the avocado for a richly satisfying taste.

If a more protein-focused dish is in order, there are three kinds of benedict dishes here (ham and salmon and a vegetarian option by way of the spinach benedict), all of which are delicious – and perfectly executed.

Any meal takes on a different dimension with something sweet thrown into the mix. At Vong Kitchen, there are a range of sweet dishes that are well worth a try. Waffles with fruit is one option. Perfectly cooked, warm waffles along side fruit is certainly worth trying as are the pancakes. Served in a short stack, these spongy pancakes are a treat! French toast is well loved and at Vong Kitchen they’re served decadently and really should feature on your brunch table.

For its excellent drinks and delectable cuisine—at any time of day—Vong Kitchen scores high marks and should certainly be part of your brunch rotation!
