An intimate bar opens up on Jalan Suryo, South Jakarta, designed for conversation and discovery of local libations. Tucked, almost hidden away, on the second-floor of a restaurant, En Par feels like a secret rendezvous for friends to find their own corner or seat at the bar for an evening of sophisticated revelry.
Effortlessly stylish, En Par’s interior navigates between modern-tropical and neo-vintage design, where minimalist wooden furniture and traditional elements meet with clean lines and contemporary lighting. Through the entrance the traditional Chinese screen, a bar space with booths leads to an open layout, where the centre-piece DJ booth is backdropped by a bay window looking out to the Jakarta streets beyond.
“As an admirer of the works of past masters, it’s quite refreshing to see that even today, this style is still relevant and progressing,” explains the bar’s founder, Leonard Theosabrata. “I think that’s what the city needs more of, something that is “on par” with the inspirational moments we treasure from our travels.”
When it comes to drinks, En Par offers something quite special, with signature cocktails centred on two premium arak brands Marak and Ark. With these spirits, each offering their own unique flavour profiles, classic cocktails are given a new and local twist and the mixologists have also prepared brand new recipes that invite discerning drinkers to savour something entirely different when it comes to taste.
Music certainly plays an important role at En Par, with the aforementioned DJ table presenting a mix of genres curated to suit the bar’s atmosphere and clientele —but never overpowering the En Par’s ultimate objective as a place to converse. At night, the venue is bathed in a deep and intimate red glow, inviting guests into a space that feels totally separate from the outside world. A place lost in its own time.
