Peter Carey will talk about his personal development as an Indonesian historian and his career as a biographer:
- of the Indonesian freedom fighter, Prince Diponegoro,
- the impact of the French Revolution on Javanese society, and
- why the Java War from 1825 should be seen as the first ideological conflict in modern Indonesian history.
Emeritus Fellow of Trinity College, Oxford, Peter Carey is currently adjunct professor at the Department of Humanities of the University of Indonesia in Jakarta.
