Jakarta music lovers were given a very special treat recently when the Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra and the Jakarta Oratorio Society put on a magnificent performance of Bach’s Mass in B minor at the Aula Simfonia in Kemayoran.
The concert hall itself is the perfect place for a production on this grand scale, with its excellent acoustics and a sweeping gallery behind the orchestra able to accommodate the 100 plus choir who were able to direct their talented voices to full effect.
Under the talented guidance of Eunice Tong Holden who was conducting, the orchestra, choir and soloists took on this great work of passion with style and dynamism, thrilling the audience who were mesmerized by their combined power and mastery of this difficult work.
In the balcony seats were some very important guests invited by Now! Jakarta founders Alistair and Barbara Speirs and Lippo Karawaci President Director Alwi Sjaaf and his wife Catherine ( who has a close personal relationship with the venue as one of the principal designers) including the Italian Ambassador and his wife, the Sri Lankan Ambassador and his family, Paul Smith of the British Council and noted hotelier Rosmalia Badman.
All were privileged to be in the company of the legendary Aula Simpfonia creator, pastor and conductor Dr. Steven Tong and celebrity conductor Arip Priatna.
It was indeed a night of great joy for all.
