Novus Jiva Anyer Villa Resort & Spa is presenting Selingkung, a large-scale public art installation by Indonesian contemporary artist Agnes Hansella in collaboration with disability empowerment foundation Precious One, from 21 May to 31 July 2026. Built from reclaimed batik scraps and shaped through collaborative knot-making, the installation invites visitors to engage with art, sustainability and inclusion through a work that grows from many hands.
The exhibition forms part of The Way Forward, Knot by Knot, a campaign that brings together Hansella’s macramé practice and Precious One’s long-standing work in disability empowerment. At the core is the knot, a simple gesture repeated a hundred times. Each reclaimed batik knot has been made individually, then gathered into a monumental spatial structure that turns discarded fabric into a shared expression of craft and progress.
The work draws from the “lucky knot”, one of the oldest knotting traditions in the world and a symbol often associated with prosperity and unity. Through Selingkung, the knot becomes a way to speak about patience, labour and connection. Small acts accumulate. A single knot may appear modest, but repeated with care, it becomes architecture.
For Agnes Hansella, the installation is a milestone in her artistic practice, known for her exploration of macramé, material and spatial storytelling, Hansella incorporates reclaimed batik scraps into her knotting process for the first time in this project. The material brings cultural memory into the work, while also addressing the question of how textiles can be reused and reimagined.

The collaboration also places Precious One’s mission in focus. Established in 2004 by Ratnawati Sutedjo, the foundation works from the belief that people with disabilities need opportunity. Over the past two decades, Precious One has supported people with disabilities through craft production, education, training and employment pathways.
Selingkung is designed as a participatory installation. Visitors are invited to create their own knot, add it to the evolving structure or take one home as a keepsake. At the end of the exhibition period, the knots that form the installation will be shared with visitors, allowing parts of the work to continue their journey outside the resort.
Guests may also support Precious One through donations and craft purchases during the exhibition. Contributions will help sustain the foundation’s ongoing initiatives in disability empowerment, education and sustainability, giving the installation a practical role alongside its artistic one.
Through Selingkung, Novus Jiva Anyer continues to build cultural programming that connects hospitality with art, community and social impact. The installation is open at Novus Jiva Anyer Villa Resort & Spa until 31 July 2026.
