Young actors from Prasetya Mulya University exercised their talents for the upcoming annual performance art show, SANSKERTA 2019. The pre-show event AKSARA held at Galeri Indonesia Kaya was a piece of the complete performance arts, Arjuna, which will be showcased at Ciputra Artpreneur next month.

Led by Rudolf Puspa from Teater Keliling, AKSARA started with the workshop “Hidup dalam Karakter”  (Live in Character) to discuss about the importance of physical and sense in theatrical performance. Theatre and art communities joined the discussion in the perspective of the major characters, Arjuna, who will be the star of the show. The casts of SANSKERTA 2019 performed a mini showcase to give a trailer for Arjuna inspired by the legendary character as described in Javanese Mahabharata book.

Written by Rayhan Savero, SANSKERTA 2019 will be narrating the life journey of the Pandawa Lima (Yudhistira, Bima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sandewa) from the point of view of Arjuna. The full title Arjuna: Perjuangan Mengungkap Makna will be focusing on the realm which has descended into chaos and the eventual Kurawas War after the death of Prabu Pandu, the father of Pandawa Lima. On the play, theatre lovers will be shown how arrogant Arjuna could understand his weaknesses and seek to find his true identity to be a true warrior.

During the press conference in May, Project leader Yosua Andrew introduced the whole cast for the first time. Markus Hardjanto directs the June performance with assistance from Michael Devarapriya. SANSKERTA 2019 consists of many other supporting talents, such as Siko Setyanto as choreographer, Vanessa Joewita as music director, and Rayhan Savero as playwright.

Andrew said that Arjuna—played by young actor Abedenego—is one of the characters that can inspire younger generation in this era since the younger generation is still in the process of finding their true identity.

“Through this musical drama, we hope that the younger generation can be inspired to find their true identity in a way that is packed with a musical drama that can entertain the viewers,” Andrew explained at the press conference.
