Puri Denpasar Hotel, located strategically along Jl. Denpasar offers easy access to Embassies, offices and the toll road, making it easily accessible from the airport. Open since 2009, its modern Balinese-inspired interior has the feel of a getaway retreat in urban sprawl. This 4-star hotel offers 77 rooms and suites, all of which exude an atmosphere of comfort and relaxation. It offers many convenient facilities including a restaurant and cafe, a bar and lounge, a karaoke lounge, 17 conference and banquet rooms, an outdoor swimming pool and a spa. What makes Puri Denpasar Hotel stand out is its excellent personal service. In 2012, the hotel  was awarded Best Hotel and Excellent Service of the Year by The International Tourism Organization.

The General Manager of the Hotel, Wishnu Handoko has recently taken over and has big plans for development. A graduate of STPB and a hotelier for over 30 years with stints across the archipelago and overseas, he brings a fresh perspective to the hotel. He was recently at a hotel in Solo and notes Jakarta’s advantage in terms of the industry. “There are no price wars here. Competition is good and tight,” he notes as he mentions that hotels need to focus on creativity with regard to its hospitality guidelines.

“The hotel’s occupancy is good and the hotel is at full occupancy during the week,” he notes. “What we have to think about is the revenue increment on weekends,” he adds. While the hotel’s location is convenient for guests, its proximity to several other properties means it needs to set itself apart from the competition. Wishnu, who is currently President of the Indonesia Hotel Managers Association (DPP-IHGMA)  believes this can be achieved by encouraging more weekend clientele. “One of the important things in getting more events and activities on to draw in crowds for the weekend. People will come for the entertainment.”

He has been with the company for a few weeks now and hopes to change his employees’ mindset, directing them to consider the facility as operational seven days a week. “We only have a small market but we must make the best use of that,” he tell us.

For these next few weeks as he settles in, he hopes to continue observing the clientele and the market. “I’m still learning the feasibility study for this segment and the potential market,” he says.
