Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort invites art aficionados on the island to the latest exhibition held at the resort, which commences from 3 September through 15 December, 2016. This exhi-bition showcases the newest calligraphic artworks of leading Balinese contemporary artist Made Wianta. Made Wianta is known as a well-rounded artist, with a great body of work throughout his career that ranges from drawings, thought-provoking art installations, music, paintings, per-forming arts, and writings. Wianta is also among Bali’s very few contemporary artists able to consistently combine his heritage Balinese art and cultural aspects with unthinkable techniques and sometimes daring approaches in his works.
In his latest exhibition at the Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort, Wianta showcases his body of calligraphic expressions, which he has gracefully applied through free-flowing lines on densely patterned surfaces. Wianta’s performing arts and installations are known to being responses and expressions to various social changes. This calligraphic arts exhibit will also serve as some sort of ‘homecoming’ to his island home, after having his work exhibited in prominent galleries and art museums worldwide, such as the 50th Venice Biennale in 2003, the Museo d’Arte Con-temporanea Roma in 2011, and the Singapore Art Museum last year.
