Jakarta’s Greek-Mediterranean dining scene gains a larger and more family-ready address with the opening of Yialos Taverna Menteng. Located at Jl. Pasuruan No. 1 & 3, the new restaurant builds on the Yialos name with a broader menu, a dedicated seafood station, private rooms and facilities designed for longer gatherings. 

The launch marks the next step for Yialos, part of the Dear Butter Group, after the opening of Yialos Grill and Souvlaki in Senopati in 2023. That first outlet introduced the brand through a livelier Greek street-style format, centred on familiar staples such as souvlaki, grilled meats and casual shared plates.

Yialos Taverna Menteng takes the idea into a more expansive setting. The restaurant is designed around the rhythm of a Greek taverna, with a spacious dining room, four VIP rooms for private occasions, a playground and a nursery room. It is a practical update for Jakarta diners who often look for restaurants that can handle different kinds of meals, ranging from business lunches and family dinners to celebrations with several generations at the table.

One of the main features is the seafood station, where guests can choose from fresh seafood and have it prepared to order. The menu introduces several dishes exclusive to the Menteng outlet, including Spicy Prawn Vongole, Kalamarakia Sti Skara, or grilled baby squid, Chickpeas with Sausage, Greek Fish Soup, Marides Tiganites, Crudo, Salt-Baked Fish, Grilled Fish and Kotopoulo Lemonato. The restaurant also continues to serve Yialos signatures, including Grilled Octopus, Meat Platter, Souvlaki and Athenian Lobster Pasta.

For Founder, CEO and Chef Bobby Handoko, the new opening carries a personal connection to the food and travel experiences that shaped the brand.

“When I first opened Yialos Grill & Souvlaki, I wanted to bring the simplicity, quality, and communal spirit of Greek cuisine to Jakarta, flavours and memories that have stayed with me since my university days in Melbourne and my travels through Greece,” said Bobby. “With Taverna Menteng, we finally have the space and the soul to take that vision further. A bigger kitchen, a deeper menu, and a home that welcomes families, friends, and food lovers the way a true Greek taverna should.”

Bobby’s approach to Yialos has been guided less by formal culinary training and more by travel, instinct and a close involvement in the menu. Every dish is developed around clear flavours, quality ingredients and food meant to be shared, a principle that carries through the Menteng opening.

To mark the soft opening period, guests will receive a complimentary dessert. Yialos Taverna Menteng is open Sunday to Thursday from 8am to 10pm, and Friday to Saturday from 8am to 11pm.
