Jakarta’s nightlife is no stranger to reinvention, but Monkey Shoulder has taken a fresh approach with Make It Monkey, a pop-up party series designed to surprise! Throughout July, the award-winning whisky brand has been quietly dropping into unexpected locations across the city, turning everyday spaces into lively, unfiltered social hubs.
One such evening saw Bakmi 888, a casual noodle spot tucked in the Blok M tunnel, transformed into a pop-up party space. With no formal set-up or signage, Monkey Shoulder brought in DJs from Salon R&B, mixed whisky-based cocktails on the spot, and introduced spontaneous games and DIY activities, including a Custom Garment Station for personalised apparel. The atmosphere was relaxed, playful, and refreshingly unscripted.

The goal? Well it is to reintroduce fun into nights out, but one that is organic and not being overly curated or planned. This approach fits perfectly with Monkey Shoulder’s brand identity. A 100% malt whisky made for mixing, known for its smooth, rich character, versatile flavour profile featuring honey, orange, and vanilla. Taste just as great neat or turned into cocktails. Approachable, modern, and social.
“One of my favourite places to visit, Jakarta already has an incredible nightlife scene,” said Brendon Khoo, Southeast Asia Brand Ambassador for Monkey Shoulder. “But with Make It Monkey, we’re inviting people to experience it differently. No need to plan, just show up, and we’ll do the rest.”

The initiative speaks to a broader shift in how people go out. With the growing preference for authentic, laid-back experiences, Monkey Shoulder meets audiences where they are in familiar places that encourage connection, rather than exclusivity. It’s whisky without the formalities, aimed at a younger crowd who value quality but prefer a more casual setting.
And the series isn’t over yet.
The next Make It Monkey event is set for 1 August at The Newsroom by Manual in Kemang. Guests can expect coffee-whisky collaborations, live DJ sets, and the same relaxed, energetic feel that’s defined the series so far.
