Held as part of Jakarta Dessert Week 2025 under Karisma Event Nusantara by Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, The Golden Swirl Awards – Jakarta Chapter returned for its second year to shine a spotlight on creativity, innovation, and excellence across Jakarta’s dessert scene.

Far more than a trophy, the Golden Swirl Awards – Jakarta Chapter celebrate the talents and brands that push the boundaries of pastry and dessert culture in Indonesia. This year, 13 categories were awarded, including Pastry Chef of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, and the new Modern Indonesian Dessert Shop of the Year, honoring brands that reimagine Indonesian sweets with a contemporary twist.

Judging was conducted independently at Electrolux Indonesia with carefully designed criteria for each category. The panel featured leading figures such as Chef Ray Janson, Chef Louis Tanuhadi, Chef Rinrin Marinka, Chef Yuda Bustara, and Chef Teuku Andre Aziz, alongside the founders of Indonesia Dessert Week. For example, the Emerging Dessert Brand of the Year category evaluated nominees on innovation, flavor and quality, presentation, growth potential, and customer experience.

Indonesia Dessert Week is a premier initiative dedicated to showcasing and nurturing the nation’s thriving dessert industry. Through events, awards, and collaborative platforms, it connects talented dessert artisans with enthusiasts and celebrates the innovation that positions Indonesia as an emerging leader in the global culinary scene.

In particular, Jakarta Dessert Week has consistently proven itself to be a pioneering culinary event. This is evidenced by its selection for five consecutive years, from 2021 to 2025, as an official part of the Karisma Event Nusantara, a flagship program by the Ministry of Tourism that showcases the top 110 events across all provinces in Indonesia.

Gastronomy is about more than just taste; it encompasses story, culture, and authentic experiences that elevate Indonesia’s tourism profile. Events like Jakarta Dessert Week and the Golden Swirl Awards serve as prime examples of how Indonesian desserts are transforming into sophisticated tourist attractions, simultaneously supporting Indonesia’s vision of “Pariwisata Naik Kelas” (Elevating Tourism).

Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, emphasised the importance of this initiative: “We appreciate efforts that bring Indonesian desserts to the global stage. We hope the Golden Swirl Awards will not only inspire chefs and entrepreneurs but also enrich the experience of both Indonesian and international food lovers. Through collaboration across ministries, regions, and industries, we believe this will strengthen the creative economy as a new driver of national growth.”

“This award is more than a ceremony; it’s a stage that opens opportunities. It’s about celebrating dedication, passion, and the courage to innovate. We are the official venue partner for the 2025 Golden Swirl Awards. Plaza Indonesia is also pleased that there are quite a lot of nominations from dessert shops in Plaza Indonesia,” said Zamri Mamat, Deputy Chief Marketing Officer of Plaza Indonesia.

“The Golden Swirl Awards – Jakarta Chapter was born out of a vision to ensure Indonesian desserts are not only enjoyed but also recognised as part of the world’s culinary culture. From Jakarta, we expanded this spirit to Bandung and Medan, creating ecosystems that support, empower, and give the stage to both emerging and established talents,” said Gupta Sitorus, Co-Founder of Indonesia Dessert Week and initiator of Jakarta Dessert Week, Bandung Dessert Week, Medan Dessert Week, and the Golden Swirl Awards – Jakarta Chapter.
