TWG Tea is turning its attention to white tea with a new short film and a collection that takes the centuries-old tea into formats made for modern drinking. Led by White Night Jasmine Tea, alongside loose-leaf blends and the brand’s Tea Teddies, the range moves from whole-leaf brews and cotton teabags to tea-infused fruit gums, giving drinkers several ways to discover a tea once largely reserved for imperial courts.

White tea begins with some of the youngest leaves of the harvest. Picked in early spring, the buds are left to wither before being gently dried, with little processing in between. This keeps the leaves close to their original form, including the fine silver down visible on varieties such as Yin Zhen, or Silver Needle.

The result is a pale infusion with a light, delicate flavour. For centuries, however, very few people would have had the chance to drink it. Prized harvests were scarce, and some were reserved for emperors and a small circle of tea drinkers. TWG Tea’s latest release brings that history onto the screen as well as into the cup.

The accompanying White Tea short film traces the tea from its early spring harvest to the finished infusion, with close attention paid to the leaves, the production process and the traditions surrounding them. The collection then takes those leaves in several directions. TWG Tea has developed blends using rare Yin Zhen white tea with fruits, flowers and citrus, introducing brighter and more aromatic flavours while keeping white tea’s character light.

White Night Jasmine Tea shows how that works in the cup. The blend pairs Yin Zhen white tea tips with night-blooming jasmine, bringing a floral fragrance to the tea without overwhelming its lighter profile. It comes in TWG Tea’s 100 per cent cotton teabags, each hand-sewn and filled with whole leaves rather than finely broken tea. That gives the leaves space to open as they steep, while the teabag format makes the blend easy to take to the office, pack for a trip or brew at home without much fuss.

White Sky Tea comes in at IDR 395,000 per 50g, while 1837 White Tea is priced at IDR 340,000 per 50g. Double Happiness Tea sits at IDR 610,000 per 50g, and White Night Jasmine Tea is also available in TWG Tea’s Cotton Teabag Collection for IDR 625,000. For anyone who would rather skip the teapot altogether, there are the Tea Teddies. These tea-infused fruit gums are made with a TWG white tea base and paired with flavours such as berries, citrus and spices. Priced at IDR 300,000, they make for a playful first taste of white tea.

The Tea Teddies variety gives white tea a little more room to play. You can keep things classic with loose-leaf tea, reach for a cotton teabag when convenience wins, or start with a fruit gum if that sounds more appealing. For a tea category that may still feel unfamiliar to some drinkers, having a few different ways in certainly helps!
