A new space in cultural discovery awaits visitors at the National Museum of Indonesia with the opening of Danantara Library. Established through a collaboration between Danantara Indonesia Trust, the independent philanthropic foundation of Danantara Indonesia, and the Indonesian Heritage Agency (Museum dan Cagar Budaya/MCB), the library complements the museum’s existing research facilities while making its wealth of knowledge more accessible to the public.
The 330-square-metre library houses approximately 30,000 books, with around 8,000 to 9,000 displayed in the reading area. Its collection covers a broad range of subjects, from Indonesian history, archaeology and ethnography to regional cultures, linguistics and classical literature. Visitors can also explore international publications, reference books and the National Museum’s own publications. Among its most significant holdings are archives and publications from the Bataviaasch Genootschap, a scholarly institution established in 1778, classical literary works, including Serat Centhini, sit alongside historical texts dating back to the 17th century.

To support visitors, the library also provides a reading room, an information service area, meeting rooms and lockers for personal belongings. Access to Danantara Library requires a standard entrance ticket to the museum, followed by registration at the library’s front desk.
Each visit is initially limited to one hour, with additional sessions available subject to capacity. To maintain a comfortable environment and protect the collection, visitor numbers are limited to 20 people per hour, with sessions arranged through an online registration system.
