Chaine-des-Rotisseurs-Jakarta

The fine dining group La Chaine des Rotisseurs got their culinary year off to a brilliant start in the beautiful surroundings of The Library at The Orient Jakarta. Since The Orient has two very different restaurants on its premises (actually there are several more but these are the selected ones!) Furusato Izakaya and Caspar, serving Japanese and Spanish based cuisine, The Chaine Council in close collaboration with the Orient’s owners, decided to make the menu a combination of Japanese and Spanish. Different indeed!

But before we look at the selected dishes, let us first return to the venue. For those who have not been to The Orient, it is almost entirely designed by Bill Bensley who is often described as a “maximalist” i.e. he hits you with huge, extraordinary designs, and The Library certainly fits that description, with beautiful works of art all around.

There is also a cozy and intimate bar attached to The Library where the diners gathered for Spicy Margarita’s and Sparkling Cava, before heading to dinner in The Library, converted to a perfect dining venue. But before dinner could start, Bailli Provincial, Alistair Speirs had a surprise, a wonderful singer, Jessica Januar, who had prepared songs in both Spanish and Japanese!

As per Chaîne tradition, Chef Rafael Martinez Millan introduced his first three courses and the sommelier, his first three wine pairings.  The dishes presented were: Suquet (Spanish Fish stew with Japanese techniques), Wagyu Sirloin Tip, and Salmon.  This process was repeated after the break when the remaining courses were paired for you to read about, but never experience, since this menu was created especially for Chaine members!

Jessica returned with pianist Aditya to do three more songs and transfixed the audience with her virtuosity and choice of music, for which she was  rewarded with a standing ovation.

The evening ended with the presentation of Certificates of Appreciation to the culinary and service teams who created, presented and served the dinner to perfection. Congratulations to Chef Rafael and the whole Orient team for an outstanding achievement.
