The biggest art fair in Indonesia, Art Jakarta is entering a new era with a new look and better confidence to stimulate homegrown art market through closer engagement within communities in the industry.

Taking place from 30 August to 1 September at Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Senayan, the 11th edition of Art Jakarta is expected to not only establish the marketplace but also extend its impact to help define the city’s creative spirit.

Organised by a group of professionals with Tom Tandio as Fair Director, the new team offers new perspective to the international art fair, which gives inclusive access to art fans everywhere in the world to come together and celebrate the industry powerhouse. Inspired by the diverse voices of local artists and Jakarta urban creative scene, Art Jakarta 2019 signals big ambition to put the art fair in the global radar.

The three-day event is created as a meeting point where a number of artists, local and international galleries, A-list of patrons as well as young collectors are able interact with each other to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a leader for the development of contemporary art in Asia. Six programmes are designed to be platforms which targets a wide range of audiences.

Along with Dr. Gil Schneider as Senior Fair Consultant, the team has secured 70 leading art galleries within Indonesia and abroad at Art Jakarta Gallery. Atelier Aki, ANOMALY Tokyo, TKG+ Taipei, Baik+Khneysser, Flowers Gallery London, Art Porters, and Jan Manton Art are among the 41 international galleries participated at the event. Not to be missed are 29 Indonesian galleries, such as ROH Projects Jakarta, RUCI Art Space Jakarta, Gudang Gambar Jakarta, Art:1 Lawangwangi Bandung, etc.

The new space at JCC Senayan is able to accomodate special presentation from seven artists to exhibit their collection at Art Jakarta Spot. This area displays large-scale on-site art installations from Eko Nugroho – ARARIO Gallery, TeamLAB – Gajah Gallery, Cheuk Wing Nam – Galerie OVO, Albert Yonathan – Mizuma Gallery, Ronald Ventura – Yavuz Gallery, Ji In You – Column Gallery and Syaiful Garibaldi – ROH Projects.

Art Jakarta Scene is dedicated to supporting dynamic progress of Indonesian emerging arts, where a number of industry players who have successfully expanded the products of contemporary arts to other business opportunities. Discover the works of Art Dept ID, Atreyu Moniaga project, ER Design, ONX Idea Studio, DGTMB Project, Omnispace and other collective arts at Art Jakarta Scene. Young collectors could also discover artworks from those artists with a maximum price of IDR 15 millions.

ROH Projects.

In partnership with Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy (Bekraf), Art Jakarta Unlimited feature the works of emerging local talents, allowing interaction with the creators of the artworks. The platform also opens the possibilities to build connections with other stakeholders.

Join Art Jakarta Talk, an open discussion to understand the many facets of contemporary art from artists, curators, academics, collectors, and various art professionals. Art Jakarta has prepared seven talk sessions, including Panel Discussion: The Role of Collectors in Building a Sustainable Art Ecosystem and launching of a book titled Inside Studios: Indonesian Artists with indonesian photographer Indra Leonardi.

As a commitment to nurture the future generation of artists, organiser collaborates with UOB to introduce Art Jakarta Play as an educational programme. Kids could learn and get to know more about fine arts with Eko nugroho Art Class. The participants could also discover their talents with HEI Schools and creative photography manipulation workshop with Agan Harahap.

This year, Art Jakarta continues its charity programme where handmade MOHOI carpet created by 13 artists including Agungn, Darbots, Daisal habibi and Natisa Jones is auctioned. Conducted by leading auction house Phillips Hong Kong, the money will be donated to two foundations in Indonesia.

A-list of patrons as well as young collectors are able interact with each other to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a leader for the development of contemporary art in Asia.
