Jakarta’s dining and nightlife scene is constantly evolving. Since our last Best Restaurant, Bar & Cafe Awards ceremony, we’ve seen high impact French fine dining at Vue46, avante garde Japanese creations at OKU, rustic Italian cooking and authentic Italian cocktails at Caffe Milano, and Mediterannean fare with an Indonesian twist at Sea Grain Restaurant & Bar, to name a few.

In the bar world, we’ve seen a surge of speakeasy bars and a revival of classic cocktails from the Prohibition era with Hemmingway and more recently, Lola, the South American themed speakeasy bar, also in the busy Senopati stretch. Perhaps the big story of the year though has been the emergence of quirky, independent cafes, like Ruang Seduh and But First Coffee, as featured in our “Dying for a Coffee”.

With this in mind, it’s high time we started thinking about which bars, cafes, restaurants and hospitality professionals should be awarded for their hard work in the culinary industry. Registration for NOW! Jakarta’s 2016 Best Restaurant, Cafe and Bar Awards, the city’s most respected and transparent of its kind, will kick off this month and several months of public voting will follow before the winners are finally crowned at a grand awards ceremony in September. In addition to our main awards and our editors’ choice awards, this year, we have decided to add “Industry Favourites” Awards.  This new set of awards, voted for by industry profesionals, will reveal those establishments which are ranked top among the chefs, hoteliers, baristas, F & B managers, and other culinary professionals.
