The biodiversity of Indonesia was a major inspiration for biological evolution, a field that traces back to Alfred Russel Wallace, best known for the ‘Wallace Line – the line that separates biodiversity across Indonesian Islands.

In this evening lecture by Indonesia Heritage Society, David McGahan will talk about Wallacea, a group of mainly Indonesian islands separated by deep-water straits from the Asian and Australian continental shelves. Reason for the biodiversity of Indonesia in Fauna and Flora, David will present current projects that reveal the region’s waves of population movements and ancient DNA that challenge former evolutionary interpretations.

David McGahan is a bioarchaeologist researching hominim expansion.
