Sari Pacific Jakarta’s legendary Japanese restaurant returns with a new look and a new name, but the charms that built its reputation still remain.
There is something reassuring about returning to a restaurant that has been around for years. Even when faces change, interiors are updated, and new dishes appear on the menu, guests will always search for a sense of familiarity. This was the mission for ORIJIN JAPANESE DINING, located on the Lobby Level of Sari Pacific Jakarta, Autograph Collection, as they walked the tightrope of refreshing their identity whilst staying true to what many of their long-time Jakarta patrons have loved for decades.
The restaurant’s history dates back to 1976. Since then, it has evolved through several names, from Furusato to Keyaki (its most famous iteration), then to The Japanese, before arriving at its current form as ORIJIN. As this new name suggests, this new rendition signifies the venue returning to its roots.

When ORIJIN first opened, Japanese dining options in the city were still in its early stages. Grilled dishes became an easy entry point for Indonesians who were just beginning to explore the cuisine, gradually turning the restaurant into a favourite among Jakarta diners. “Robatayaki is the identity of this restaurant,” says Executive Chef Tomoaki Ito, who has been leading the kitchen since 2023. “Many guests have enjoyed it for years, so it is something we want to preserve and carry forward.”
As such, the Japanese grilling style has once again become the heart of ORIJIN, building on the restaurant’s previous success and promising to continue this legacy in its new form. Of course, broader Japanese offerings are also served, from fresh sashimi to teppan, Chef Tomoaki ensures the authenticity and artisanal approach to his national cuisine remain across the board.
Balancing past and present, the menu at ORIJIN is split into two definitive categories.
Appeasing the more nostalgic of diners, under “Timeless Taste Since 1976,” signatures like the Robatayaki Gindara, Robatayaki Salmon, and Robatayaki Hamachi Kama continue to hold their place, alongside Japanese Wagyu Miyazaki Sirloin A5, US Tenderloin, and Australian Wagyu Sirloin MB9+, which can be enjoyed as Robatayaki, Teppanyaki, or ORIJIN-style Teriyaki.
Yet innovation continues in the kitchen, with a serving of new dishes under “Flavours Reimagined – 2026,” which includes Gindara Misoyaki, Salmon Steak, Hamachi Kama ORIJIN-age, and Yakiniku Gyu Karubi. To close, the restaurant’s signature ORIJIN Cheesecake is set to become a new classic.

ORIJIN’s new space evokes the comfort of a contemporary Japanese home with select design details retained from earlier chapters – a fresh feel that secures the restaurant’s place in Jakarta’s modern dining scene.
Looking ahead, ORIJIN plans to introduce seasonal menus, collaborations, and curated events celebrating Japanese culture and cuisine. For some guests, the restaurant holds decades of memories, while for newcomers, ORIJIN offers an opportunity to experience one of Jakarta’s longest-standing Japanese dining destinations. ORIJIN JAPANESE DINING welcomes guests daily for à la carte lunch from 11.30 AM to 2.30 PM and dinner from 6 PM to 10.30 PM.
