There are many awesomely designed restaurants in Jakarta. It was a challenge to pick our four recent favourites to fit two pages, but we did our best!

Alto Restaurant & Bar

Upon entering Alto Restaurant & Bar at Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta, guests are immediately captivated in a space that feels fluid and sensuous. Past the welcoming bar that offers an intimate surrounding, the main dining area is dominated by deep tones of red and soft tones of ochre, mixed beautifully with polished woods with chic booths for moments of privacy for two to six people. Wall-height windows separate the restaurant and the bar from a terrace, which offers jaw-dropping views of the city. The vision was to create and design a truly experiential place–a glamorous destination to truly savour and enjoy.

Chef Founder Gilles Marx founded AMUZ Gourmet with the aim of bringing the particular concept of creating a memorable dining experience with your loved ones. With a welcoming ambience that’s decorated with well-lit marble tones of grey complemented with bright white tablecloths, the restaurant offers a heartfelt soul that is both approachable and relaxing. This reflects the chef’s philosophy that says a good meal is meant to be shared with family, friends, colleagues or clients. A relaxing atmosphere promotes excellent communication and interaction, which in turn brings people closer as shared moments become memorable dining experiences.

Within the city’s highest restaurant in the country, Henshin The Westin Jakarta, interior design is on another level of meticulous attention to detail. The charm is immediately felt from the transforming entry hallway with pulsating hues that changes as if it has a mood of its own. At the restaurant itself, ceiling at the top floor and carpets are inspired by artworks used in Japanese Kimono Dress from Okinawa. Being high up in the clouds, the restaurant is a negative stage set for the stunning scenery. Finishes are dominated by dark hues to accentuate the skyline. A grand staircase connects the bar and the restaurant, created by Silverfox to feel like it cantilevers out of the side of the building. At any visit these details breathe life to your elevated dining experience.

Social Garden

The arrangement of Social Garden is a metaphor of a traditional house configuration, where there is terrace, living room, and gazebo at the backyard garden. Wood screen jalousie is chosen for the façade, mimicking windows of a house. Entering the restaurant, guests will be guided to the café, dining or the outdoor lounge. The concept of each area was built into another as if one was walking into a path. The idea is to create a sense of procession of one seamless journey, which can lead to several different activities, according to customers’ desire. Another challenge is to create different ambiances between indoor and outdoor, the cozier inside with the more natural feel outside, aside from a sense of separation. These areas are partitioned by large glass windows and doors. The decoration of each area is designed to lead into—and contrast with—the adjoining space. The color palette of the indoor comprises a combination of soft and bright green hues, to compliment the outdoors’s deeper color combination of wood and earthy materials that harmonious with the plants.

Covering nearly 1,000sqm of irregular shape site, the new Social House greets guests with a low, informal reception table followed by neatly designed wine rack and storage shelves—a very welcoming sight indeed! The centre of the main dining area hosts a central bar alongside large glass windows connecting the inside and outside area. Earthy materials perfects the restaurant’s cosy atmosphere, with additional palettes of rattan and terrazzo coming together with a dynamic composition of colours and patterns. Natural lighting and skylights also integrated in the design, complimenting the whole experience.
