King Lear Reimagined: Tadashi Suzuki’s Production Comes to Jakarta
Tadashi Suzuku’s King Lear will make its Jakarta debut at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta on 16 and 17 September 2026 at 8pm, with Indonesian actor Jamaluddin Latif leading a cast drawn from eight countries.
Suzuki’s version, first created with Suzuki Company of Toga in 1984, moves Shakespeare’s ageing king into a hospital setting, where memory, reality and hallucination begin to overlap. Latif is joined by Ellen Lauren, Nana Tatishvili and Antonina Isidora Valderrama Saez, alongside performers from Japan, South Korea, Italy, China and Indonesia.
The 100-minute performance runs without an interval. Tickets are available through Puteri at +62 877 8321 4733 or Dienary at +62 821 3017 9139.
