Gran Meliá Jakarta will host Malaysian Gastronomic Month at Café Gran Via from 27 July to 14 August 2026, with a daily dinner buffet led by Executive Chef Addy Dzulfadzly of Meliá Kuala Lumpur. Supported by Tourism Malaysia Jakarta, the programme brings Malaysia’s multicultural food traditions to the table through familiar recipes, regional ingredients and established cooking techniques.

Malaysia’s food culture reflects generations of migration, trade and exchange, bringing Malay spices, Chinese cooking methods, Indian curries and indigenous ingredients onto the same table. These overlapping influences give Chef Addy plenty to work with, from herb-laced salads and slow-cooked meats to seafood broths and coconut-rich desserts.

For three weeks, Chef Addy will take up residence at Gran Meliá Jakarta to translate that culinary range into Café Gran Via’s buffet. The buffet begins with appetisers such as Kerabu Pucuk Paku dan Kerang, combining fern shoots with shellfish, alongside Kerabu Nangka, Kerabu Kaki Ayam and Acar Jelatah. These salads and pickles introduce many of the flavours that run through the menu, including chillies, herbs, acidity and fresh vegetables.

The main-course selection includes Ayam Masak Merah, Daging Masak Hitam, Dhalca Gulai Kambing and Ikan Masak Assam Pedas. Seafood appears in Sambal Udang and Singgang Lautan, a broth prepared with prawns, squid and clams. Vegetable dishes include Sayur Kobis Goreng Udang Kering and Sayur Petola Telur Pecah Tumis Air.

Desserts continue with Malaysian staples such as Bubur Jagung Manis, Bubur Pulut Hitam and Kuih Ketayap. Guests can accompany their meal with Sirap Bandung, Teh Tarik or Air Mata Kucing, drinks commonly found at Malaysian dining tables, markets and roadside stalls.

“At Gran Meliá Jakarta, we believe that exceptional cuisine is one of the most meaningful ways to connect people with different cultures,” said Jeronimo Molina, General Manager of Gran Meliá Jakarta. “We are delighted to collaborate with Meliá Kuala Lumpur and welcome Executive Chef Addy Dzulfadzly to share the true flavours of Malaysia with our guests in Jakarta.”

The event also forms part of Tourism Malaysia’s ongoing work in Indonesia, one of the country’s major visitor markets. Its programmes promote Malaysia through culture, nature, shopping, education, healthcare and food, bringing elements of the destination to Indonesian audiences before they travel.

Mr Farzamie Sarkawi, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta, described the programme as a meeting point between two neighbouring cultures.

“This initiative goes beyond a mere food promotion; it serves as a platform to further strengthen the longstanding friendship between Malaysia and Indonesia through culture and gastronomy,” he said. “We are bound by deep-rooted similarities in history, language, culture and values that have connected our peoples for generations.”

Malaysian Gastronomic Month will be available daily for dinner at Café Gran Via, Gran Meliá Jakarta, from 27 July to 14 August 2026. The buffet is priced at IDR 395,000++ per person, offering Jakarta diners three weeks to explore Malaysia’s dishes course by course.
