The familiar Djournal café at Pasaraya Blok M returns with a more refined look as Djournal Monster Café. Created in collaboration with Indonesian street artist Darbotz, the refreshed flagship introduces new interiors, signature drinks and flexible spaces that suit everything from remote work to catching up over coffee.
The reopening also introduces how Djournal plans to develop its cafés going forward. Built around its Make Every Day Exciting philosophy, the brand sees its stores as places for coffee and shared ideas, captured in three principles: Coffee, Community and Collaboration. The Pasaraya flagship will also become a venue for future collaborations with Indonesian artists and creative communities.
Darbotz’s artwork appears throughout the café, with Mahavisual adapting the artist’s visual style into the interior and creating three original characters—Bizzy, Izzy and Cozzy—for the project. Designed by FFFAAARRR, the space includes an Espresso Bar, a Manual Brew Bar, communal seating, quieter corners and flexible areas that can accommodate everything from individual visitors to community events.
The coffee menu continues to champion Indonesian beans. Guests can order from either the Espresso Bar or the Manual Brew Bar, with every cup brewed using 100% Indonesian Arabica. The reopening also introduces the Monster Series, a playful line-up inspired by flavours many Indonesians know well. Apple Pomelo Cold Brew offers a bright, citrusy twist, while the Enting Enting Latte adds caramelised peanut flavours and crunchy pieces of the traditional snack. The Enting Enting Chocolate brings the same nostalgic combination to those skipping coffee.
One detail that might go unnoticed is hidden in the café itself. Parts of the façade and bar have been made using recycled coffee grounds developed with Bell Living Lab. Nearly 289 kilograms of coffee waste have been turned into materials used throughout the café’s interior.
The reopening also comes with a limited-edition collection created with Hydro Flask and Baller Indonesia, while future collaborations with Indonesian artists and creative communities are already in the works. For regulars, the new Djournal Monster Café offers one of Blok M’s familiar coffee stops a new reason to visit again.
