South Jakarta has been treated to some creative, local street art in recent months. Following the lead of local artists who painted on the support beams of the non-toll Flyover (JLNT) on Jalan Kasablanka, the pylons along Jalan Antasari have served as a canvas for local school students. Not less than 63 poles have been transformed into murals by students from various senior high schools and vocational high schools in Jakarta.

The mural art works are colourful with many paintings representing Betawi culture, such as ondel-ondel, the life-sized Betawi puppet, and the diversity of Indonesian traditional dresses. And it’s not just culture. A variety of typical Betawi food is also featured in the mural, like nasi uduk, soto, bir pletok and kerak telor, in addition to icons of transportation in Jakarta, such as the metromini, bajaj, trans Jakarta buses and the commuter train.
