Iskandar Fauzy

Sejarah yang Ditemu-Ciptakan (Invented History)

Srisasanti Gallery presents Sejarah yang Ditemu-Ciptakan, a solo exhibition by Iskandar Fauzy. This exhibition showcases 11 black and white acrylic paintings of Iskandar Fauzy, which were made between 2016 and 2022. His works play with our memories of moments that are considered important in world history.

Iskandar Fauzy’s paintings in this exhibition critically requestion our perception of history, which we usually obtain from old documentation and archives. Iskandar Fauzy manipulates reality with photographic images through the approach of appropriating historical and imaginary figures in a fabricated black and white stage.

The events depicted in Iskandar Fauzy’s canvas can only be made possible by imagination with critical, moral and meaningful intentions. This 1972-born artist “invents” history which allows the audience to enjoy various other possibilities in understanding history.

Through Iskandar Fauzy’s solo exhibition, Sejarah yang Ditemu-Ciptakan, Srisasanti Gallery invites viewers to imagine other possibilities of what has happened in world history and try to ‘create’ their own history.

Ida Bagus Putu Purwa

Remembrance of Being

22 October – 11 December 2022 Tirtodipuran Link, Yogyakarta

Srisasanti Gallery also presents Remembrance of Being, a solo exhibition by Ida Bagus Putu Purwa. This exhibition showcases 12 latest artworks of Ida Bagus Putu Purwa which depict dreams, memories, and lamentations from things that have and will be forgotten in his everyday life. For him, painting is an experience that allows him to talk about and contemplate the constant changing in social and spiritual reality.

In the process of working on the works presented in Remembrance of Being, Ida Bagus Putu Purwa places the figures in his paintings randomly and spontaneously. However, these figures are not present without reason, some of them represent and perpetuate some Balinese culture and tradition that he experiences every day in his life.

Remembrance of Being  is an opportunity to observe how humans are constantly attached to memory. Through the act of remembering, humans strive to retain and preserve certain memories through concrete details and abstract feelings.

Ida Bagus Putu Purwa (b.1976) is a Balinese contemporary artist. He portrays life through various subject matters such as humans, fauna, and flora that express his feelings, emotions, and imaginations. His works are reflections of himself, both as an individual and social being that lives in the Balinese community, surrounded by its culture and traditions.

Using a combination of charcoal and oil paint, Ida Bagus Putu Purwa creates distinctive elements in his surrealist-decorative  paintings.  He has exhibited in various international art galleries and institutions in many major cities such as Tokyo, Berlin, Amsterdam, and Hong Kong.
