Following the momentum of two major Indonesian culture-heavy programmes in 2018, namely the Welcoming Back Asian Games and The Glory of Palembang, Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta presents Kalā — Capturing Indonesian Artistry from 5 to 20 August.
The program showcase the splendour of Indonesia’s performing arts through a series of events with traditional Wayang performance and a special museum exhibition along with a historical tour of Hotel Indonesia and a museum tour to three significant museums in Kota Tua area.
Starting from 5 August, the main lobby of Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta is transformed into a well-appointed museum designed by renowned interior designer Cosmas Gozali, showcasing handpicked collections from the Puppet Museum, the Textile Museum and the Handicraft and Ceramic Museum.
The programme also include Natya Vidya, where a handful of Solo-based artists under the Wayang Suket Indonesia organisation will come together and present a traditional shadow puppet performance on one of the nights of the event.
The pinnacle of this Kalā event on 20 August will be a fashion presentation by Saptodjojokartiko at the iconic Bali Room of Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta, boasting the new Spring-Summer 2020 collection inspired by classic Indonesian performing arts.
Within the culinary side, Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta is offering Rasā, a specially-curated culinary offering highlighting old-school angkringan, traditional culinary experience strongly rooted in Indonesia’s tradition.
Renowned national art figure, Amir Sidharta, during the launching ceremony told NOW! Jakarta, “I think this event is very important because it helps raise awareness towards our existing museums, which are significant assets in our community. Not too many people are aware of the great collections and this event is a channel people can go through to access such treasures and help enjoy and preserve Indonesian cultural history. The broader issue is to get not only local guests but the younger generation as well to appreciate their heritage.”
