Since its establishment in 2001, Ichthus School Jakarta has been consistently providing world-class education that prepares its students for a bright future. Armed with excellent facilities and value-driven education, as well as sound biblical teaching, Ichthus School aptly combines academic development with spiritual formation to shape the characters of its young learners.

As one of the leading international schools in Jakarta, Ichthus School’s commitment towards well-rounded and high-quality education is evident through the stellar accomplishments of many of its students.

Meet Carissa Setiawan, an award-winning Grade 12 Biology student with big passion in preserving the environment. This month, she’ll be representing Indonesia at the 24th International Conference of Young Scientists (ICYS) 2017 in Stuttgart, Germany from 16 to 21 April. Last year alone, Setiawan won two notable science competitions: the regional round of a competition held by the Indonesia Institute for Life Science (I3L) and a special award in the Environmental Science category at the National Young Researchers Competition, during which was participated by 120 students from other competing schools.

Under the guidance of the Head of the Science Department, Mrs. Charina Valente, who’s also Setiawan’s biology teacher and research adviser, the young scientist successfully conducted a research on how to use fish sludge as fertiliser. Her study, entitled “Fishtiliser: the Utilisation of Fish Sludge from Fish Industry as an Organic Fertiliser”, explores ways to turn waste into wealth and promote greener environment. Her days are now filled with intense preparation for the conference in Stuttgart and more – as President of Ichthus School’s Student Council, Setiawan maintains a busy schedule leading and engaging in issues that matter to her fellow students.

Thanks to solid support from the school administration under the leadership of Ichtus School Director Mrs. See Mun Suparno and Principal Mrs. Wendy Armunando, Setiawan is steadily making her way towards a solid career in science and as a community leader.

Such is the strength of Ichtus School, which focuses on efforts to boost students’ interests and skills in an ever expanding and demanding global environment. With activities that are geared towards shaping innovating minds and encouraging students to explore their talents, the school aims to bring transformation into the lives of its students, turning them into inquisitive and creative leaders.
