Bali remains one of Asia’s favourite travel destinations, with its rich culture, natural beauty and thriving tourism industry continuing to attract visitors from around the world. As the island grows, there are also opportunities to make tourism more sustainable, from improving waste management and water conservation to supporting local communities and preserving Bali’s cultural heritage.

These topics will take the spotlight at TRANSFORMATION Bali – MVB Sustainability Forum 2026, happening on Wednesday, 11 November, at Padma Resort Legian. Organised by MVB Indonesia, the full-day forum welcomes hospitality leaders, tourism businesses, policymakers and sustainability professionals for a day of industry insights, open discussions and practical ideas on Bali’s tourism future.

There are two keynote speakers worth hearing from. Architect, entrepreneur and environmentalist Popo Danes will discuss how cultural awareness can influence urban planning and the way people live. Janet de Neefe, festival founder and restaurateur, will share lessons from her 20 years of organising festivals and explore what it takes to keep Bali’s culinary and literary communities thriving.

The hotel industry gets its own share of attention, with discussions on smarter energy and water management, emissions reduction and biodiversity protection. Another session invites industry leaders to share what sustainability actually means in practice. Anthony Syrowatka, owner of Viceroy Ubud, will examine how luxury and responsible hospitality can work hand in hand, while Yulia Maria, Director of Marketing and Communications at ARTOTEL Group, will discuss how sustainability commitments can translate into action across a hotel portfolio.

Waste is another major topic on the agenda. From Bali’s environmental policies and used cooking oil recovery to circular design and responsible procurement, the discussions will explore ways businesses can rethink how they manage resources. Regenerative hospitality also gets attention, with sessions on ecosystem restoration, local supply chains, lower-impact food systems and community development.

For a closer look at solutions already available to the industry, Shiva Industries will introduce organic waste management for hotels, including composting and food waste recovery. Control Union will share practical guidance on GSTC certification for hotels and restaurants, while PT Suparma Tbk will discuss responsible paper solutions for hospitality and business operations.

With speakers from different corners of the industry, the forum offers a chance to hear varied experiences, exchange ideas and meet others who are working towards more responsible tourism. Whether part of the hospitality sector or simply interested in Bali’s future, there is something worthwhile to take away from the discussions.
