Open since August this year, de Braga by ARTOTEL has become all the rage in the city of flowers, Bandung, West Java. In mid-November, de Braga held Fair de Braga an event marking the hotel’s grand opening where the local creative community gathered in one place. An art market which sold handcrafted products, art talks and a workshop, as well as musical performance were on the agenda in celebration of Bandung’s creative scene.

Through a collaboration with Bandung-based artists such as Argya Dhyaksa, Erwin Windu Pranata, Riandy Karuniawan, Radhinal Indra, Addy Debil, Elfandiary and Agung Prabowo, the hotel is designed with a touch of art deco and botanica where artists’ creations are painted throughout its 112 studio-type rooms in its 14 stories.

In recognition of Bandung’s emerging creative personalities, the boutique hotel has dedicated an art space to hold exhibitions, and aesthetic 24-hour restaurant KUNST Bistro.Terrace Cafecan also be used for art workshops from TahiLalats, Semata Gallery, to Bandung Sketchwalk.

The lobby in this heritage building, Sarinah is welcoming. Once a department store, the first in Bandung in1962, it was established in the Dutch colonial era and was a fashion store. The hotel has preserved the building as a heritage site that has now been transformed into a cafe named B10 inspired by the hotel location at Jl. Braga No.10.

During the three-day celebration of Fair de Braga, a number of indie artists performed at the café including Nonaria, Nissan Fortz, Cockney Kids, Kimoji and other local musicians. Here, people can enjoy Braga’s signature coffee and other drinks along with a selection of snacks while enjoying city old atmosphere. A truly perfect place to hang out and make a networking between other creative players.

Later, Fair de Braga will be planned annually along with regular art events. Anton Susanto, the General Manager of de Braga by ARTOTEL said that the events are part of the Hotel’s initiatives to demonstrate the hotel’s commitment to support local creative industry in Bandung. “It’s in line with our mission to give a contribution to the art industry. I hope de Braga will get a good response and be a meeting point for people for travellers and creative individuals in the city,” Susanto said.
