Kuningan’s got a new kid on the block! Considered one of the most vibrant hubs in the city, the area welcomes an intriguing dining destination with the opening of DEMO Bar & Bistro. The restaurant welcomes guests into an industrial-inspired space, serving up great drinks, comfort favourites and plenty of entertainment.

With its striking rust-panelled entrance, DEMO Bar & Bistro’s façade foreshadows what you’ll find inside: a whimsical world of bronze cogs and metal rods juxtaposed against exposed brick, with interiors that present a tasteful take on the ‘steampunk’ genre. It’s a fun theme that certainly stands out against Jakarta’s restaurants. Now, the rustic atmosphere is really just for decoration and luckily plush and polished leather seating ensures comfort for diners as they sit in this fantastical factory.

The menu was crafted by Chef Chandra Yudasswara, a host of Chef’s Table, who is also the proprietor and conceptor of this unique bistro. As for his passion and professionalism, he puts his creativity into the dishes and has obviously set the right tone.

“Culinary trends have changed a lot after the pandemic, the average customer is slowly returning to traditional food. Because during a pandemic it was difficult for restaurants to provide food with imported ingredients. The menu here is dominated by Indonesian and Asian flavours, so customers will find many local favourites, such as Bubur Ayam, Sop Buntut, Nasi Goreng Kambing, and also a menu with a rijsttafel concept,” shares Chef Chandra.

The Chef’s Indonesian offerings are found under the ‘Local Fav’ category of the menu, and although classic dishes, there are definitely twists. For example, your Nasi Goreng comes with your choice of chicken, prawns, or more premium ingredients like lamb, lobster and even Wagyu MB5!

There are plenty of other offerings outside of Indonesian food, however. Sticking to the bistro concept, Chef Chandra has prepared a variety of tempting comfort favourites for those hoping to dine casually as they drink and chat. You’ll find Wood Fired Pizza and Black Angus Katsu Tenderloin on their ‘Bites’ menu; ‘Salads’ include Mixed Mushroom Salad to Wagyu Pepper Beef & Foie Gras; there’s a selection of pastas, and plenty of meats from the ‘Charcoal Grill’, including Spring Chicken, Norwegian Salmon, Tomahawk MB5 Steaks and more.

The bar is definitely a big deal at DEMO, which has become a popular place for after-work drinks and live music as well. For drinks, guests will find a range of local and imported beers, soju, rum, liquors and liqueurs, single malts and plenty of classic and signature cocktails. Open everyday: 11 am to 1 am on weekdays; 11 am to 2 am on weekends.
