The European Music Curriculum (EMC), a leading music school with European standards, took audiences on a memorable journey with Indonesia’s first-ever underwater-themed piano concert. “Fantasia in the Deep” seized the centre stage at Jakarta Aquarium & Safari from 3 to 4 November 2024, creating a spectacle that was nothing short of magical.
Over 130 talented students performed in this one-of-a-kind concert, performing timeless melodies from beloved animated classics. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of an aquarium, the six-session event immersed attendees in a world of enchantment.
Each 45-50 minute session began with the soothing sound of underwater music paired with wave animations. The performers, aged 6 to 20, filled the venue with beautiful piano melodies, playing on a grand piano set against the shimmering aquatic backdrop. The show added depth and layers of charm with the inclusion of violin and vocal performances.
And just when one thought it couldn’t get more magical, the finale stole the show: a mermaid glided gracefully inside the aquarium while a pianist performed a dreamy underwater piece. The crowd was left spellbound at the spectacle. Over the course of two days, nearly 2,000 attendees packed the sessions, with some even spilling outside the main area to soak up the atmosphere.
Nadya Janitra, B.Mus, founder of EMC, shared her thoughts on the event’s bold concept. “This was our first time hosting a concert in an aquarium, and we wanted to offer something truly special”. She also noted that the Jakarta Aquarium & Safari offered the perfect setting with its professional-grade stage, dynamic lighting, and special effects like bubbles, which made the experience even more immersive.
Fantasia in the Deep wasn’t just another concert, it redefined how music can be enjoyed. By combining innovation with artistry, EMC has created a benchmark for future performances in Indonesia. Now, with a mission to foster the next generation of musicians, EMC supports over 700 students across its 14 branches in the Greater Jakarta area. As an institution, it continues to be dedicated to delivering top-tier music education and inspiring fresh ideas in the world of music.
