For decades, Cikini 82 was closed to the public. However, its historical significance and architectural heritage remained intact. Now, after a meticulous restoration process, the building has been revitalised and returned to its role as a public space.
Located in Menteng, Cikini 82 is a historic building that has witnessed many important milestones in Indonesia’s journey. During the colonial era, this house served as a residence for the elite. In the post-independence era, the building transformed into a diplomatic residence and a venue for state meetings, hosting various intercultural dialogues, intellectual exchanges, and art and cultural initiatives.
Under the leadership of Lukas Budiono, the owner of Cikini 82, the restoration process was carried out with careful consideration and respect for its historical value. The authenticity of the building’s architecture and its historical atmosphere have been meticulously preserved while introducing new functions as a dynamic cultural space.

More than just a physical conservation effort, this restoration represents a revival of meaning: returning Cikini 82 to its rightful place as a space for gatherings, idea exchange, and intergenerational collaboration. Not just a place, it is a platform where art and communities can thrive and connect.
As a manifestation of this new spirit, Cikini 82 presented Pusparagam, an inclusive celebration marking the official opening of it to the public. Through programmes such as the Sanjivana art exhibition, Experiential Dining by Lenore, and Soirée, featuring interdisciplinary performances and networking sessions, Pusparagam illustrates how this historic residence is ready to be a welcoming space for diverse faces and ideas.

With this new vision, Cikini 82 now stands as a shared home — a living space that welcomes artistic expression, culinary experiences, community discussions, and cultural celebrations. More than just a building, it has been reborn as an open platform for various forms of expression and narrative.
Pusparagam is not only a celebration of Cikini 82’s reopening but also a symbol of its new role as a cultural and community hub at the heart of the city—a vibrant and accessible space for the public that continues to honour its rich historical heritage.
“Cikini 82 is not just about the past — it is also about the future of an open, egalitarian, and possibility-filled cultural space,” said Lukas Budiono.
