British and Indonesian cuisines might not have much in common, but the essence of comfort food runs deep in both culinary traditions. For a chef like Kirk Westaway, reimagining timeless heritage with a contemporary touch is part of his mission. And now we can experience it firsthand with the arrival of The Crown by Kirk Westaway at Fairmont Jakarta.

Led by the expertise of Chef Kirk Westaway, whose Singapore-based restaurant JAAN by Kirk Westaway holds an impressive two Michelin stars, this new venture elevates beloved British homely dishes with refinement. The Crown’s menu is a love letter to Chef Westaway’s culinary journey, in which he cherishes the tastes of his Devonshire upbringing and global flavours. The dining experience here is seasonal, ingredient-led, and effortlessly sophisticated, where his South West English roots shine through each dish.

The journey begins with a trio of amuse-bouche: the Beetroot Meringue, Goose Mousse, and Cheese Pancake. Each bite is a whimsical nod to the familiar, yet reimagined with finesse. Then arrives the deconstructed Leek and Potato Soup. A new experience of a commonly loved dish, where guests will pour a leek broth into a creamy potato base and drink it directly from the cup.

Next comes the Rye Sourdough and Butter Loaf served warm with a compound butter of lemon and thyme. The Tomato Salad with Burrata, olives and basil also makes a refreshing interlude– sweet, tangy, and light, it’s a clever palate cleanser before diving into the hearthier fare.

The Scallops, which are paired with asparagus, peas, lettuce, and pancetta, evoke the warmth of a countryside kitchen with its gentle, and brothy texture. While the showstopper Wagyu Sirloin steak with celeriac, mashed potatoes, and reform sauce, is a savoury indulgence in every bite.

Take a moment to sit back and enjoy the restaurant’s vantage point where the view by day sweeps over the emerald fairways of Senayan’s golf course, and at night surrounded by the glimmers of the skyline. You can call up the restaurant’s award-winning sommelier and ask for the best wine recommendations.

When it’s time to move to the sweetside, The Mandarin Sorbet, accompanied by citrus salad and Earl Grey, acts as a graceful palate reset. To end the meal on a light note, order the Strawberry Eton Mess, a playful British classic with a modern twist, layered with vanilla, yoghurt, and lime. Should you wish to linger, there are petite sweets to accompany your post-meal coffee or tea. The Lemon Meringue Pie, Blood Orange Fruit Pastille, and Coffee & Chocolate Bonbon will make for a memorable farewell.

At The Crown by Kirk Westaway, British flavours are reinterpreted with lightness and verve. This is where you want to experience the best of both worlds– a meal that brings you warmth, but served with opulence and creativity. Timeless heritage on a plate.
