A good breakfast spot has a specific atmosphere. They smell of coffee, or baked goods, and have a self-contained busyness to them, as if they are responsible for jumpstarting the entire day – and for many, that’s precisely what they do! So, where does one go for a caffeine and croissant fix in the city?
Mornings in Jakarta unfold with a quiet sophistication that often goes unnoticed beneath the city’s relentless pace. Before the traffic reaches its peak and the business day fully takes hold, there exists a softer rhythm: one defined by coffee, light conversation, and the gentle ritual of breakfast. Cafes, restaurants, and eateries become more than just places to dine; they serve as informal meeting grounds where the day begins not with urgency but with intention. Here are our recommendations for experiencing the art of breakfast in Jakarta.
Buka Mata Senayan

The aptly-named ‘Buka Mata’ (open your eyes) Senayan is found in the buzzing Gelora Bung Karno complex, where many of Jakarta’s active residents will kickstart their day with a run, cycle or workout. As such, the coffee shop has become part of many people’s morning ritual. As the day winds down, Buka Mata also transforms into a cosy late-night spot for casual catch-ups, remote work, or simply unwinding over good coffee and comfort food.
Located in the lobby of ARTOTEL Gelora Senayan, Buka Mata is the only 24-hour spot in the area, offering a wide selection of coffee and non-coffee beverages, freshly-baked pastries, sliced cakes, as well as a full à la carte menu to boot. For those with a morning sweet tooth, the cafés signature ‘Gelora Donat Senayan’ is a favourite – either munched in-house with a cup of coffee, or boxed up to be enjoyed with friends and colleagues later. With its modern interiors, it’s a great spot for a casual catch-up, to get some work done before the day properly begins, or to wind down and recharge at the end of a long day.

BAKED Brew Bar Kemang

BAKED’s Kemang outpost is the kind of place you only find if you’re looking; tucked behind a Jalan Kemang Utara shopfront and into an open backyard garden. The Bali-born brand arrived in 2023 with its pastry counter and speciality coffee intact: butter croissants, Lemon Curd Cruffins, and the signature Original Best Scramble, which built the brand’s reputation long before it crossed the strait. Too quiet for you? Check out their Gunawarman location.

Baker Butcher Barista

Up in Pantai Indah Kapuk, Baker Butcher Barista – often referred to as B3 – offers a different yet equally compelling take on the city’s breakfast culture. As part of the MDA Restaurants group, it brings together artisanal baking, modern grill, and specialty coffee within a cohesive all-day dining concept. Freshly baked goods set the tone, with highlights such as the Cempedak Flan (wild jackfruit egg custard) and Smoked Maling Pot Pie (house-smoked pork luncheon meat, mirepoix vegetable, green peas), both pairing comfortably with their crafted coffee selections.
The menu extends into inventive comfort dishes, where familiar classics are reimagined with subtle creativity.
The Corny Bennie replaces the traditional English Muffin with Corn Fritters, lifted by kaffir lime hollandaise, while the B.Mw.–Cang introduces a rich fusion of bone marrow and bakcang with wagyu shank. On the beverage side, options like the aromatic Dji Sam Susu (a white Brew with clove, anise & cinnamon sugar notes) or the bright Black Calamansi (a dark brew with fizzy citrus orange notes), reflect the café’s attention to detail in flavour composition.

Bakoel Koffie Cikini

Bakoel Koffie on Jalan Cikini Raya has been operating since 1878: four generations of the same family, the same colonial-era ruko, and a coffee programme built around Indonesian beans from Sumatra, Java, and Sulawesi. Traditional cakes sit alongside the cups, and the setting, high ceilings, vintage tiles, and ceiling fans, has barely changed. For some mornings, that’s exactly what’s needed.

La Boutique Gourmande

Le Méridien Jakarta’s beloved delicatessen, La Boutique Gourmande, recently reintroduced itself with a refreshed identity, positioning it as one of the city’s most compelling destinations for a refined breakfast experience. While its elegant new look enhances the overall ambience, the true evolution lies in its expanded menu. Guests can now explore a broader culinary range, from Indonesian local favourites to well-executed Western classics.
The renewed offering has sparked particular excitement among pastry enthusiasts. Long-time patrons will recognise the return of its signature creations: Mille Feuille, Canelé, and Éclair, the three timeless staples that continue to define the boutique’s identity. Each pastry reflects a commitment to classic European technique, balancing delicate textures with rich, precise flavours. Set within the hotel’s lobby, the space itself embraces a contemporary European café aesthetic. Designed as an open, light-filled environment, it naturally lends itself to a variety of occasions. whether as a co-working spot, a venue for casual meetings, or simply a place to pause over coffee.

Monolog Gunawarman

There’s always a particularly good energy at Monolog’s Gunawarman outpost. The glass-block façade and warm wood interior set a tone that feels deliberate, and by mid-morning, the tables tend to fill with people who seem to have somewhere interesting to be. You shouldn’t miss out on the Monolog Big Morning breakfast plate, Apple Brûlée Pancake, or their coffee (we’re fans of their Flat White) & pastries.

Levant Boulangerie

On a quiet Cipete street, directly opposite the French School Jakarta, Levant Boulangerie has been the neighbourhood’s anchor since 2014. What started as a go-to for the surrounding French community has drawn in a wider crowd, without adjusting its standards to do so. Chef-founder Ramon Medina, Lyonnais by origin, produces croissants, quiches, baguettes, and fruit tarts with the kind of quiet precision that tends to speak for itself.

BRAUD® Cafe Jakarta

BRAUD began as a wholesale micro-bakery in Bali in 2014, and its Senopati home carries that same foundation to the city. The ground-floor counter makes the case immediately: almond croissants, lemon-glazed bomboloni, sourdough produced fresh in an open kitchen each morning. Now reintroduced as BRAUD Cafe Jakarta, the space runs through to dinner, but mornings (and their amazing baked goods) remain the main event.
