Marking its 30th anniversary, Gran Meliá Jakarta unveiled an extraordinary culinary centrepiece, a 31.5-metre Beef Rendang Wellington that earned the hotel a coveted Museum Rekor Dunia Indonesia (MURI) title.
Presented at the hotel’s Lobby Lounge, the record-breaking creation brought together two culinary traditions in a single showpiece. Indonesia’s beloved rendang was reimagined through the refined format of the classic Beef Wellington, resulting in a dish that paid homage to local heritage while reflecting the hotel’s international outlook. The ambitious creation was conceived by Gran Meliá Jakarta’s culinary team under the leadership of Executive Chef David Marteau. The Wellington symbolised the hotel’s 30-year journey, celebrating a legacy built on craftsmanship, creativity, and a deep appreciation for culture.

“Reaching our 30th anniversary is a significant milestone for Gran Meliá Jakarta. This achievement reflects the dedication of our team, the trust of our guests, and the strong support of our partners throughout the years,” said Jeronimo Molina, General Manager of Gran Meliá Jakarta. “Through this MURI record achievement, we wanted to create something memorable that celebrates Indonesian culinary heritage while showcasing the creativity and innovation that define our hotel.”
The anniversary gathering welcomed guests, business partners, media, and hospitality leaders for an afternoon that celebrated both the hotel’s history and its future ambitions. Chef David Marteau also shared the inspiration and planning behind the record-setting creation, offering a glimpse into the months of preparation required to bring the ambitious concept to life. The celebration carried a wider purpose through a collaboration with Food Cycle Indonesia. Through the partnership with the non-profit organisation, Gran Meliá Jakarta reaffirmed its commitment to reducing food waste and supporting communities in need.

The occasion reached its highlight as MURI Vice Director Osmar Semesta Susilo officially presented the record certificate, recognising the hotel’s achievement before guests gathered to witness the ceremonial cutting of the 31.5-metre Beef Rendang Wellington and enjoy the creation together.
The event concluded with a tribute to the culinary team whose dedication, precision, and collaboration made the record possible. Entering its fourth decade, Gran Meliá Jakarta continues to place hospitality, gastronomy, and cultural appreciation at the heart of the guest experience, reflecting Gran Meliá’s philosophy of “A Life Well Lived.”
