One might have expected ALICE at The Langham, Jakarta, to remain the dainty darling of afternoon teas and pretty pastries — and rightly so. But from this month onwards, she emerges with a delightful twist. The venue has undergone a Parisian metamorphosis, now reborn as ALICE by Tom Aikens, with the renowned British Chef transforming the previous patisserie into a vibrant French bistro and bar.

Polished cutlery and white linens might impress guests at first glance, but it is the new menu that will leave a long lasting satisfaction. Aikens collaborates with the hotel’s very own Executive Chef Jeremy Jouan– a Frenchman of vast experience to offer a delectable tribute to French bistro cuisine. Savour the buttery embrace of Escalope de Saumon à l’Oseille or the hearty bites of Côte de Veau, these are the comfort food dressed to the nines.

Guests can garnish their plates with silken Gratin Dauphinois or verdant Haricots Verts Lyonnaise, and if one must choose a sauce (or three), the house-made béarnaise, mushroom, and pepper do not disappoint. The pièce de résistance comes in the form of the Plats du Jour, a daily dance through the soul of French home cooking. Here, Chef Aikens channels the spirit of bistro tradition with dishes like Boeuf Bourguignon and Coq au Vin.

Those who have come to love with ALICE’s iconic afternoon tea delights, need not to worry, they are still there waiting with a touch of Tom’s British roots to the ritual, honouring The Langham legacy while adding his own elegant flair.
