For Jakarta’s informed diners will be familiar with Silk Bistro, the charming Thai restaurant nestled in Menteng and the first collaborative venture between Chef Freddie Salim and BIKO. The legacy continues in the newly-opened Silk Thai, offering the brand’s signature take on modern Asian and Thai-inspired cuisine to the Pakubuwono area.
Found on the corner of Jl. Gandaria 1, Silk Thai welcomes diners into an elegant restaurant space with the stylish interiors done by Bitte Design Studio, set across two floors. The first floor offers a lively, open dining area with a view into the kitchen, whilst the second floor features lounge seating, a dedicated bar section and private rooms for those seeking a more intimate dining experience. The interiors evokes an Asia-vintage ambience that is effortlessly cool and calm.
Chef Freddie Salim channels his love for Thai cuisine into Silk Thai, presenting thoughtfully curated Asian dishes that the original Silk Bistro is known for. My passion for Thai cuisine was born during my time at Longrain Sydney,” Chef Freddie shares.
“Working there for nearly four years, I was immersed in how fresh herbs like coriander, Thai basil and lemongrass can create such a flavourful journey on the palate. There’s a beautiful balance when cooking the dish. The way it blends sweet, salty, sour, spicy and bitter elements is incredible. Since these herbs and spices are so accessible here in Indonesia, it felt natural to bring this experience to Jakarta.”
Chef Freddie highlights the curries on the menu, from their rich and aromatic Massaman Curry Beef to Red Curry Duck Maryland, which is complex and layered. “Every curry paste is made from scratch,” says the chef, proudly.
